Despite my passion for health and fitness. My entire approach to exercise has evolved as I have gotten older, (as I like to think I have evolved as well.)

With raising a family and building a business over the last 12 years, my priorities and perspective on life have shifted, especially after I rolled over 40 trips around the sun.

But that doesn’t mean you leave your self-care at the bottom of the list. The more the calendar creeps upon you, it’s actually more important to keep it on the list.

Here are my four exercise rules I use to stay fit after 40:

1. Choose consistency over intensity

2. Remember that ego is the enemy

3. Kaizen- the practice of continual improvement

4. Be fun and flexible in your approach

These rules have adapted over time as I’ve gotten more experienced with 25 years of consistent training, and as I’ve grown older and shifted my priorities. Looking at how I approached things in my twenties, actually makes me chuckle and sometimes cringe. Funny how life experience does that?

Today, even though I am still a fitness coach by profession, I’m happy being 20lbs lighter than I was in my bulkier…
