Beast Mode is Overrated

There’s this new fitness trend I’ve been watching with equal parts amusement and annoyance.

Here it is: “You need to go beast mode hardcore high intensity every single time you workout!”

I can see the appeal, of course. It’s direct. It’s motivating.

But it’s also unnecessary and unrealistic for most people — yes, even those of us who are serious about our health and fitness.

If you’re like me or 99% of the people I work with — including busy parents and professionals — I know many times training with maximum intensity can actually set your progress back.

Like if you’re:

  • Raising children or managing many
  • Stressful season at work
  • Traveling frequently
  • Recovering from sickness or injury

We need to realize that it’s OK (actually highly recommended) to tone down the intensity but maintain consistency of some routine when your body and life need it. Do you really think doing nothing will help you feel better?

The way I see it, fitness isn’t the end goal, living a better life (and enjoying your friends and family) because of your fitness is.

Fitness is meant to enhance your health and happiness, not take away from.
