One of my favorite sayings and rhymes is “if you want fast and furious to be the pace, slow and steady wins the race!”

Here are some ways to harness the power of going slower to speed up your results from your health and happiness.

Mindful Munching

Eat slower and more mindfully and you’ll enjoy your food more, digest it better, and feel more satisfied at the end of your meals. Can you take
at least 15–20 minutes to eat your meals? This is the time that is needed from your belly to your brain for your proper hunger and satiety hormones to kick in. Set the timer on your phone for your next meal, and you may be shocked by how fast you eat!

Walk and Talk

Add slower steady pace walking to your exercise routine instead of adding more HIIT or higher intensity exercise like interval training. Use the talk-test to determine this more moderate intensity level. (If you can talk normally or sing a song without getting short on breath you are in the slow and steady zone.) Walking, especially outdoors in nature, stimulates the rest and digest side of your nervous system, clears your mind, strengthens your heart, and lowers your resting heart rate.
